I found out a few days ago that Final Fantasy 14 was having a free login event in August. This could not come at a more perfect time. I’ve been itching to play the game again but didn’t want to pay for a months sub since No Man’s Sky comes out in a few weeks. If I start my free time in FFXIV tomorrow it’ll give me something to do over the weekend.

Right now I have a Bard sitting at level 49 and a White Mage sitting at 46. I’m hoping to get one or both of them to 50 before my free time is up. When I last played I was helping a friend level up and was messing around with a bunch of different classes. I switched to Bard after I got tired of healing and ran most of the Main Story Quests with it. With my free time, I’m going to work on my White Mage because a) I miss healing and found it really enjoyable in the past and b) I don’t want to sit in long DPS queues for dungeons.

Before I let my sub lapse I was getting into crafting and gathering and I was trying to level all the classes at once. As a result, my inventory and both of my retainers were filled up with raw crafting materials. This made it hard to do other things like pick up gear in dungeons. Maybe when I come back to the game for real I’ll get the itch to craft again.

If I can manage it, I’d like to start doing the rest of the quests before the expansion. I hear that it takes some time and when I actually come back to the game I want to jump right in to Heavenward. Though I don’t know if I should wait and get the experience from those pre-Heavansward quests that comes with having the expansion.

At any rate, I miss my chocobo buddy and he must be feeling pretty lonely too After all, I’ve  been away for quite some time.

Welcome back to FFXIV! It’s worth it to pick up Heavensward if you have a character at level 50 that you plan to take through the story quests beyond the original 2.0 storyline. For example, my sister and brother-in-law picked up the expansion before they hit 50, and now they are 58 and 57, and nowhere near reaching Heavensward yet (they’ve been taking it slow, doing story, dungeons and events).

By the time they do get to the expansion content, they’ll certainly already be level 60, and able to use those new ilvl 235 weapons from the Deep Dungeon, as well as better armor!

Wow I didn’t realize there was such a huge chunk of xp in the post 2.0 contenet. I might just wait after I hit 50 then until I buy the expansion. Thanks for the heads up.
